The NOAA weather radio FIP code database is changing
rapidly due to the addition of new weather radio stations, transmitter
power upgrades, county reassignments, etc. To keep current, your WX-1000
and WX-200 county data base can be updated here by following the three
easy steps listed below. If you are updating a WX-250, an updated FIPS state files can be downloaded here:
Locate your state and click on the link for a listing of NWR stations
for your state.
Look over the listing and observe any additions or corrections
for your area. If changes are necessary, write down the following information
for each new or changed listing:
A) Six (6) digit county FIP code. B) County name. C) NWR transmitter location. D) Frequency of that transmitter.
Locate your state FIP listing for your WX receiver located on your
hard-drive. Use the file identification by state list box below for
your state file name. Most state listings can be located in the following
directory:
C:\Program Files\Cat Files\States
File identification by state.
Once you locate your state file, open it with a text file editor.
Notepad can be found under the "Accessories" menu listing. Below is
an example of the state of Florida (file FL_109.st) opened with Notepad.
If you need to edit or change a FIP code listing, carefully make the
necessary change and keep all columns in vertical alignment. Use spaces
if necessary, do not use the TAB key.
If you need to insert a new county listing, locate the numerical
FIP code position (far left column) and open a new line at that location.
Type in the information you wrote down from step one and add
the new addition. Use the space bar for proper column positioning.
Do not use the TAB key.
Save your state file into the same directory. You are now ready to
start your WX configuration program and use the updated state FIP listing.
